Welcome to the website for the Golden Bay Environment Centre Trust, located in Takaka, Golden Bay. We are interested and active in many environmental and sustainable issues and we hope you find these pages useful.

Sustainable Housing Project - Strawbale House, Takaka
The Sustainable Building Alliance has completed its first environmentally friendly strawbale house in Golden Bay on Labyrinth Lane, Takaka. This house features super insulated strawbale walls, double glazed windows with thermal breaks, ultra batt insulation in the ceiling, under floor insulation, solar hot water heating, compact fluorescent lights plus much more.

Unloading Straw Workshop Volunteer Team

Throughout the interior you will find recycled doors and wood, recycled fixtures, natural earth plasters and the loving touches of the 60+ volunteers and workshop participants that came to Golden Bay to learn about sustainable building.

The Sustainable Building Alliance and the Trust will continue to offer workshops, free talks, seminars and educational activities to promote environmentally friendly building and sustainability in Golden Bay. Ride Sharing Bench Promotion
We are participating in World Environment Day during the week of 02-08 June by promoting the ride sharing benches started by Derry Kingston. We will be having spot prizes for people stopping to give rides plus drawings for great prizes. Jump on over to our Events page for more details.

Feed the Bay Program
This innovative program addresses the present dependency on most of our food supply being transported more than two hours from where we live. This community growing program and nutrition project addresses growing staple vegetables, grains, fruits and nut trees locally while educating our residents how to eat optimally in the most affordable ways.
